Description of Benefit
Pays monthly benefit for life if member becomes mentally or physically unable to perform job duties and condition is total and likely to be permanent (not available to state employees in VSDP).
Eligibility for Benefit
Eligibility continues for up to 24 months after being placed on leave without pay for active duty military service. Must apply for disability retirement the earlier of:
- within 24 months of being placed on official leave status, or
- within 90 days of termination
