Albertine Appointed to VRS Board
Posted: February 27, 2003The Joint Rules Committee appointed John M. Albertine to the Virginia Retirement System to serve a five-year term. He succeeds the late Clifford A. Cutchins, a retired banker.
Albertine, a former economics professor at Mary Washington College, currently serves as chairman and CEO of Albertine Enterprises, a consulting and merchant banking firm in Washington, D.C. The firm, under Albertine’s guidance, finds investment opportunities, structures deals, marshals private equity funding and invests with the co-investors.
Albertine holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Virginia. He worked for Senator Lloyd Bentsen, D-Texas and served as executive director of the Congressional Joint Economic Committee under Bentsen. In 1987, President Reagan appointed Albertine chairman of the Presidential Commission on Aviation safety. In addition, he has served on the boards of eleven publicly traded companies and currently serves on the boards of three.
VRS is the 29th largest public or private pension fund in the U.S. and provides benefits to 107,000 retirees and 310,000 active members.
