VRS Receives National Leadership Award
RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 29, 2004 -The National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators (NAGDCA) recognized the Virginia Retirement System with the Leadership Award for the agency’s efforts to educate eligible members about the benefits of the Commonwealth of Virginia Deferred Compensation Plan. The award was presented at the NAGDCA annual conference held Sept. 10-14, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The VRS program, called the Regional Enrollment and Education Meetings (REEMs), provides eligible employees around the state additional opportunities to learn more about the Commonwealth of Virginia Deferred Compensation Plan and to enroll. The meetings also include information about account management and the importance of asset allocation.
VRS Director W. Forrest Matthews, Jr., said, “The REEMs program has become an essential component of our service to members. The Deferred Compensation Plan is an important retirement savings vehicle, and REEMs allows VRS to provide additional outreach to members in their own communities with this information. We are gratified to receive national recognition for leadership in this area.”
VRS is the 30th largest public or private pension fund in the United States with a $40-billion portfolio.
