RICHMOND, Va., March 21—Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Chief Investment Officer Nancy C. Everett announced today that she has accepted the position of Chief Investment Officer at General Motors Asset Management, effective June 1, 2005.
Everett joined the Virginia Retirement System in 1979 when the system’s assets totaled less than $2 billion. In 1983 she was promoted to assistant investment officer. During the 1990s, she continued to rise through the ranks in the investment division, becoming chief investment officer in 1999.
“Looking back over my 25-year career at VRS, I feel very fortunate that I was given the opportunity to grow with this pension system and work with the best investment team in country,” said Everett. “These have been very rewarding years of professional growth within an industry whose mission is to ensure the financial security of retirees from public service. It is a credit to the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Board of Trustees at VRS that they have allowed me to accomplish so much. I feel well prepared for the next stage of my career and am looking forward to joining the investment team at General Motors.”

Nancy has been instrumental in taking VRS to a new level of investment management excellence for which she has earned a distinguished reputation in the pension and investment communities,” said Chairman of the Board Alfonso I.
