RICHMOND, VA, December 16, 2005 – L. Farley Beaton, Jr. will lead the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) technology services area as its new Chief Technology Officer, effective December 19, 2005.
In this position, Beaton will help lead the agency as it modernizes its information technology systems and employs technology solutions to serve the system’s 543,000 members and retirees.
Beaton comes to VRS from the Virginia Department of Taxation where he worked in a variety of positions over the last 25 years. Most recently, he served as the Executive Commissioner and Chief Information Officer where he managed a major business process reengineering and technology modernization project and served on the agency’s executive team.
“As VRS sets strategic goals to meet future customer service demands and modernizes its business operations, Farley will be instrumental in developing systems to support these efforts,” said VRS Director Robert P. Schultze.
VRS is the 27th largest public or private pension fund in the United States and the 48th largest internationally with over $45 billion in assets.
