Grant and Harris Appointed by VRS Board
RICHMOND, Va., March 23– The Board of Trustees of the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) today made two leadership appointments. Charles W. Grant was appointed acting chief investment officer, effective March 24, 2005. Wallace “Bo” Harris was appointed acting director of VRS, effective April 1, 2005.
Grant joined the VRS investment department in 1995 and has held senior leadership positions of increasing responsibility. In January 2005, he was appointed VRS’ deputy chief investment officer and chairman of the Management Committee, with responsibilities for oversight of the investment programs and the fund’s asset allocation process, asset-liability modeling and risk management. When coming to VRS, he brought over 15 years of investment experience in the banking and money management industries. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a B.A. in economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an MBA from the University of Richmond..
Harris currently serves as the senior deputy director of the system where he has held various positions of increasing responsibility with the agency over the past 27 years. Currently, he is serving as acting commissioner of the Department of Social Services. Harris is also an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond and holds a B.A. in economics and an MBA from the University of Richmond and a Ph.D. in policy and public administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
