Gerrick Appointed to the VRS Investment Advisory Committee

RICHMOND, VA, September 27, 2007 - The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Board of Trustees appointed Patricia Gerrick to the board’s Investment Advisory Committee (IAC). The IAC advises the board regarding policies governing the investment of the VRS fund on behalf of members, retirees and beneficiaries.

Gerrick currently serves as the deputy state treasurer and state investment officer for the North Carolina Department of the State Treasurer. In this position, she is responsible for the oversight of the department’s investment management division including its pension fund valued at approximately $75 billion.

Before beginning her service with North Carolina in 2004, Gerrick served as the chief investment officer of the Indiana Public Employees Retirement Fund. Previously, she was director of international investments for the New York State Common Retirement Fund and the investment/financial officer for the retirement systems of Kansas City, Missouri and Sprint Corporation.

Gerrick earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Fisk University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia University. She is a trustee at Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the SECU Family House at University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. She also serves as a Robert A. Toigo Mentor at UNC Chapel Hill.

VRS serves more than 582,000 active members, retirees and beneficiaries. The active employees include approximately 145,000 teachers, 101,000 local government employees and 91,000 state employees. In addition, VRS provides benefits to more than 130,000 retirees and beneficiaries. The retirement system ranks as the nation’s 26th largest public or private pension fund.
