Payout Options
If you selected the Survivor Option when you retired, you may revert to the Basic Benefit or you may name another person to receive survivor benefits under certain conditions. You can change your option if:
- Your contingent annuitant dies, or
- You divorce your contingent annuitant after fewer than 20 years of marriage*, or
- You divorce after 20 years or more and your former spouse either dies, remarries or consents*, or
- You supply VRS with written consent from your contingent annuitant relinquishing claim to a benefit, along with satisfactory evidence of his or her good health.
*If there is an Approved Domestic Relations Order (ADRO) on file with VRS, VRS must pay benefits as directed by the ADRO.
If you chose a survivor option, you may elect to change your survivor only once.
