Health Insurance Credit Increases for Retired Teachers
Under legislation passed during the 2007 session of the General Assembly, the health insurance credit for teachers who retire with at least 15 years of creditable service increased from $2.50 to $4 per month for each year of service. The legislation also removed the health insurance credit maximum of $75 per month for retired teachers with more than 30 years of service.
The increase went into effect July 1, 2007 for current and future retired teachers, school administrators and school board employees who meet the eligibility requirements for the health insurance credit.
The health insurance credit is a non-taxable benefit that provides eligible retirees and employees on disability a reimbursement to assist with the cost of their individual health insurance premiums.
