State VSDP Participants: Long-Term Care Benefit to Increase
Changes are coming to the long-term care program provided through the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP). Effective December 1, 2007:
- VRS will begin administering the long-term care program. The current administrator, Aetna Life Insurance Company, announced last year that it will no longer sell group long-term care insurance.
- The long-term care daily benefit amount for VSDP participants will increase from $75 to $96. The lifetime maximum will increase from $54,750 to $70,080.
VRS will automatically enroll VSDP participants in the VRS long-term care program. They do not have to take any action to get this coverage. Their coverage also will continue at no cost to them.
In addition, VSDP participants will have the option of purchasing long-term care coverage under Aetna. VRS will send VSDP participants an information packet in September about the changes in long-term care coverage. It will include information on purchasing Aetna coverage.
