New Customer IDs Replacing Social Security Numbers

With the launch of myVRS Navigator, VRS will discontinue the use of Social Security numbers (SSNs) as the member number, except at enrollment, to protect your employees' identities. VRS will assign a unique VRS customer ID number to each member. myVRS Navigator also can accommodate a second, employer-specific identification number. You can use either the VRS customer ID or the secondary ID to search for your employees or to communicate with VRS staff.
Non-State Employers
You have the option to use your internal employee ID numbers for the second ID field. You will receive more information later on how to provide these numbers for VRS to load into myVRS Navigator.
State Employers
The Commonwealth of Virginia Employee Number is the automatic second ID for state employees. VRS will load these numbers before implementation of myVRS Navigator.
