Learn More About PDF Files

The Virginia Retirement System uses Portable Document Format (PDF) as the file format for most of its static forms, publications, brochures, and pamphlets. The PDF format is a universal file format that preserves all of the fonts, formatting, colors, and graphics of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it.

Identifying a PDF file (download)

Portable Document Formats are easily recognizeable on the VRS Web site by this graphic:PDF Icon icon. After the icon you will observe a number that looks similar to this: "120kb". This number (file size) is provided for your convenience and will help you determine the speed of downloads for files of this type.
