Basic Group Life Insurance Program

When you become employed in a permanent, salaried position with a participating employer, you are automatically covered under the Basic Group Life Insurance program provided by Minnesota Life for VRS members and retirees. Many employers pay the premiums for their employees.

Eligible Employees

Classified state employees.
Public school teachers.
Administrators and clerical employees of school divisions.
Members of the support staff of school boards.
Employees of participating political subdivisions.

Employees who work on a temporary, contractual or wage basis are not eligible.

Beneficiary

You may change your beneficiary at any time by submitting a Beneficiary Change Form VRS-2 to your human resource office or Minnesota Life. Remember to keep your beneficiary updated if your family situation changes, such as birth, adoption or marital status.

Additional Coverage

If you are covered under the basic group life program, you are eligible to purchase additional coverage for yourself and your family through the Optional Group Life Insurance program.
