Hazardous duty supplement (Effective July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2011): $12,456 per year; $1,038 per month
Membership in the State Police Officers’ Retirement System (SPORS) is a condition of employment for eligible employees. Eligible members include state police officers.
Eligibility
SPORS members are eligible for an unreduced retirement benefit at age 60 with at least five years of service, or at age 50 with at least 25 years of service. SPORS members are eligible for a reduced benefit at age 50 with at least five years of service.
Benefit Calculation
The amount of the retirement benefit for SPORS members is 1.85 percent of average final compensation multiplied by years of service credit. A reduction factor is applied for early retirement.
SPORS members with at least 20 years of hazardous duty service at retirement may be eligible to receive a special supplement payable until full Social Security retirement age. If the membership date is prior to July 1, 1974, the 20 years of hazardous duty are not required to be eligible for the supplement.
Except for the difference in eligibility requirements, benefit calculation and the 20-year hazardous duty supplement, benefit plan provisions for SPORS members are the same as for members of VRS.
