Member:
  • Is a state employee, school division employee or a general employee of a participating political subdivision.
  • Was hired or rehired before July 1, 2010, and does not have at least five years of service credit as of January 1, 2013.
  • Was hired or rehired from July 1, 2010, to December 31, 2013.
  • Has not taken a refund.

Member:
  • Is a full-time salaried, sworn sheriff; full-time salaried, sworn deputy sheriff; jail superintendent or sworn officer of a regional jail; or a full-time salaried, sworn local law enforcement officer; firefighter or emergency medical technician whose employer has elected enhanced hazardous duty coverage.
  • Was hired or rehired on or after July 1, 2010; or
  • Was hired or rehired before July 1, 2010, and does not have at least five years of service credit as of January 1, 2013.
  • Has not taken a refund.

  • Is a state police officer.

Member:
  • Is a capitol police officer, campus police officer, conservation police officer, ABC special agent, CCA special agent, marine resources officer, state correctional officer, state juvenile correctional officer, state parole officer or commercial vehicle enforcement officer employed by the Virginia Department of State Police.
  • Was hired or rehired on or after July 1, 2010; or
  • Was hired or rehired before July 1, 2010, and does not have at least five years of service credit as of January 1, 2013.
  • Has not taken a refund.

Judicial Retirement System (JRS)

Member:
  • Has been appointed or elected as a judge or a commissioner of the State Corporation Commission or the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission.
  • Was appointed or elected to an original term before July 1, 2010.
  • Does not have at least five years of service credit as of January 1, 2013, and was appointed or elected to an original term before January 1, 2014.
  • Has not taken a refund.
