Virginia Retirement System Recognized for ‘Atmosphere of Openness’
RICHMOND May 6, 2024 -The National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems (NCPERS) recently presented the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) with a Certificate of Transparency for encouraging an “atmosphere of openness” between public pension systems and the general population.
NCPERS commended VRS for fostering open disclosure, broadening the range of available data and contributing to a transparent understanding of public retirement systems.
VRS received the certificate for its participation in the 2024 NCPERS Public Retirement Systems Study. The 157 participating state and local government pension funds shared information on plan design, investment allocation and returns, actuarial assumptions and plan governance practices.
NCPERS is the largest trade association for public sector pension funds, representing approximately 500 funds throughout the United States and Canada. NCPERS works to promote and protect pensions by focusing on advocacy, research and education for the benefit of public sector pension stakeholders.
