Walking is one of the simplest ways to stay active and is linked to better heart health, sharper thinking and a lower risk of chronic disease. If you’re looking to make regular walking a habit, the Walk With Ease program can help you get started and stay on track.

What Is Walk With Ease?

Walk With Ease is a free, six-week program developed by the Arthritis Foundation and supported statewide by the Virginia Department of Health. Originally designed for people with arthritis, the program is open to anyone who wants to start or improve a walking routine. Participants are encouraged to walk three times a week and follow a guided plan at their own pace.

What You Get

When you register, you can choose a free printed guidebook mailed to your home or access a digital version through the online portal. The guidebook helps you plan each week, providing health education and tips for building a safe, comfortable walking routine. Through the portal, you can track your weekly progress, watch guided videos and sign up for motivational reminders by text or email. Looking for accessible places to walk? Find a map of parks and trails on the Walk With Ease page.
