Public pensions pumped $8.8 billion into Virginia’s economy in 2022, with retiree spending supporting more than 46,000 jobs across industries like food service, health care and retail. Each dollar paid in benefits generated $1.23 in economic activity, according to a new report from the National Institute on Retirement Security.
