The Virginia Retirement System has received a Certificate of Transparency from the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems in recognition of its commitment to openness and data sharing in the public pension industry.

The award reflects VRS’ participation in the 2026 NCPERS Public Retirement Systems Study, in which 149 state and local pension funds voluntarily reported on finances, operations and business practices. Now in its 16th year, the study enables pension systems to benchmark performance and track industry trends.

NCPERS noted that VRS’ participation enhances the availability of reliable data and supports understanding of how public retirement systems operate.

NCPERS is the largest trade association for public pension systems in the United States and Canada, representing about 500 funds, stakeholders and service providers.
